Accidents at work

If you suffer damage while carrying out your work, for example because you fall from a scaffold or because of a faulty machine, this is referred to as an industrial accident. Your employer is almost always liable for this, even if you yourself were inattentive. This is because your employer has a "duty of care": it must ensure that your workplace is safe. Your employer must therefore prove that sufficient safety measures have been taken, sufficient safety instructions have been given and there has been enough monitoring of compliance with those instructions.

Incidentally, you need not worry about your relationship with your employer - usually he is simply insured for liability.
